World Cancer Day: Tahira Kashyap shares a picture of her surgery scars

On World Cancer Day today, filmmaker and actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife Tahira Kashyap took to social media to write a powerful note and share a picture of her surgery scars. The scars she refers to in the picture are the marks she got post the preventive mastectomy she underwent after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Sharing the picture, Tahira wrote in her inspiring note, “Today is my day! Wish you all a happy #worldcancerday and hope each one of us celebrates this day in an embracing way. That we remove any stigma or taboo associated with it. That we spread awareness about it and that we have self love no matter what. I truly embrace all my scars as they are my badges of honour. There is nothing known as perfect. Happiness lies in truly accepting yourself. This was a tough one for me. But this picture was my decision as I want to celebrate not the disease but the spirit with which I endured. To quote my mentor, Diasaku Ikeda, “Leading an undefeated life is eternal victory. Not being defeated, never giving up, is actually a greater victory than winning, not being defeated means having the courage to rise to the challenge. However many times we’re knocked down, the important thing is we keep getting up and taking one step-even a half step- forward”

Husband Ayushmann reposted Tahira’s picture and wrote, “Your scars are beautiful. You are a trailblazer.”

Meanwhile, in a conversation with Mumbai Mirror, Tahira shared how Sonali Bendre has been an inspiration for her in her battle with cancer. She said, “Sonali has been a very big source of strength for each one of us, whether she realises on not. I read her interview and saw her posts and that was the time, I was not going through anything. I felt what a strong woman she is. The courage she exuded from her post. I think subconsciously that stayed with me. Suddenly, few months down the line, I was in a similar situation. That’s why communicating is important. She has a very big role to play – not only in my life but also life of other people as well. I hope to do the same for other people.”
Tahira has been hailed for being extremely positive while battling the disease. Here’s wishing her a speedy recovery.
